Welcome to Harrogate Rugby Club...

Dear Friends, Supporters, and Rugby Fans,

I can’t start to say how pleased I am to welcome you to Rudding Lane today for this Regional 1 North game between Harrogate and York! This fixture was always going to be significant for our club given the close bonds we have with York. However, circumstances have conspired to make this game, the game of the season!
With both teams locked in a promotion battle with only Heath poised to spoil the part for either club today is an absolute must win. But given the weather we have experienced this winter today’s game is also a must play for Harrogate. The lost revenue experienced from postponed games is hugely impactful on the club’s cashflow. So this is my plea for all rugby fans today to do what rugby fans do…drink beer, eat pies and cheer on both sides.

While painful, the lack of commercial income could be much worse if it wasn’t for the generous support of our sponsors, many of which we welcome to Rudding today. I would particularly like to thank those joining us for lunch; Andrew Laver, Simon Croft and Richard Smailes. Your commitment to our club is so important and we look forward to seeing you today.

I can’t guarantee today’s game is going to be pretty, it will be muddy but not dirty and played with passion and commitment by both sides. Enjoy the day and whatever the outcome remember nothing helps with celebrating or commiserating than an extra pint of Black Sheep!

Yours in Rugby,

Mark Garrett
